When a child is brought for baptism, the promises and commitments are made by parents and godparents on behalf of the child, on the understanding that (s)he is brought up in the Christian faith at home and within the local church.
At St John’s we also take seriously our responsibility to support those who have been baptised and their parents and godparents and as part of this we keep in regular touch and encourage ongoing involvement in the life of our church.
The baptism promises should not be taken lightly or without integrity and in recognition of this, for both adults and the parents of children being baptised, there is a period of preparation before the baptism, to enable those involved to understand more fully the words spoken and the promises made.
What do I do now?
